I like to make art about the dichotomy of our physical world and a more mysterious spiritual reality, that for me, speaks easily through Nature. This translates, in my art, as a combination of abstraction and reality.
Wanda Boudreaux Artist Statement:
The plants, landscapes, and seascapes in this series are from places where I have lived that have inspired me to stay connected to nature, which is essential for a positive life balance.I like to make art about the dichotomy of our physical world and a more mysterious spiritual reality that speaks easily through nature. This translates into my art as a combination of abstraction and reality.
The artwork in this exhibit is an example of my calling attention to and celebrating this connection throughout the years, as well as practicing being mindful of and appreciating moments of mystery, beauty, and joy.
The recent Plant Series pieces are made on paper that came to me with random paint marks on them already, residue from my Los Angeles area elementary art students, who used the paper to protect tables while working on a painting project. In a sense, this is a collaboration with my young students, bringing a layer of energy and abstraction.
The East Coast Series are very early paintings from beaches near New York City and feature rocky jetties with brushy hovering presences.
